Mamponhene marks 20th Anniversary

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, will be the guest of honour at the 20th anniversary celebration of the enstoolment of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Omanhene Mampon Traditional Area. The event will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the forecourt of the Amaniampon Silver Palace at Mampon. There will be an interdenominational thanksgiving service on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at the same venue.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu II was enstooled on August 25, 1996 following the abdication of Nana Atakora Amaniampon II.

Pursuant to the Asante Constitution, the Omanhene of Mampon occupies the Silver Stool which was created by Asante Chief Priest and Prophet… Okomfo Anokye. The Mamponmanhene is second in command to the Asantehene and serves as Asanteman Kontihene (General of the entire Asante Army). Nana Boahen Anantuo served as the commander of the Asante Army in the War of Liberation against Denkyira. The defeat of Odɛɛfuo Ntim Gyakari and Denkyira at Feyiase remains a major landmark, and serves as the beginning of Asanteman as we know it.

In matters of civil administration, the Mamponhene acts as Chairman of the Asanteman Traditional Council and Asanteman Nhyiamu (Asante Parliament) in the absence of the Asantehene. He is also Asanteman Nifahene.
Upon the death of the Asantehene, Daasebre Mamponhene acts as “Nwisiahene” of Asanteman, that is, as the guardian (King) of the bereaved Asanteman. Once a new Kumasehene is enstooled, that person is introduced to Mamponhene and other Amanhene of Asanteman. Upon their acceptance, the Kumasehene swears the oath to become Asantehene.

Among other services, Daasebre is a member and permanent Vice-President, Asante Regional House of Chiefs, Chairman of the Standing Committee, Asante Regional House of Chiefs, Chairman of the Standing Committee of Asanteman Council, a member of the National House of Chiefs, a member of the Standing Committee of the National House of Chiefs, a member of the Judicial Committee of the National House of Chiefs and the Editor-in-Chief of the National House of Chiefs publications.

Prior to his enstoolment, Daasebre was known as Saint Oswald Gyimah-Kessie. He attended Prempeh College, and graduated from the University of Ghana, Legon. He is a lawyer, and served as Registrar of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

We wish Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Nana Agyakomaa Dufie II, Omanhemaa of Mampon, Mampon Kontonkyi and the entire Mampon a happy, happy, anniversary.
